artists in Australia”
ACMLA
Former Dubbo
artist Carol Donovan, now based in Port Macquarie, released her
latest self-titled EP early 2005 after being awarded the 2004 Akubra
Songwriter of the Year.
Carol
has been catapulted back onto the country music scene. She has been
entrenched in music her whole life and this is evident in her versatile
vocal ability. From sitting around campfires to singing in front of
12,000 people with Marcia Hinze and Normie Rowe at the Carol’s By
Candlelight, Carol’s natural rapport with her audience is unique.
Carol
was
a nominee for the 2004 Apra Song of the Year and the soloist for the
2004 CWCI Convention. A finalist in the 2002 ABC
Newcastle Music
Awards
and Grand finalist in the Maitland Music Awards. A previous
Toyota
Starmaker Grandfinalist
(2000) and a graduate of the Australian College of Country Music. She
has appeared on Prime television, Sky Channel, co-written and worked
with the best in Australian Country Music; Felicity Urquhart, Beccy
Cole, Gina Jeffreys, Rod McCormack, Sara Storer, Adam Harvey, Bill
Chambers, Sweeney Killeen, The Wolverines, Daniel Thompson and the Feral
SwingKatz.
Back in 1999
saw the independent release of her debut album Along The
Pathway producing a little jewel of a single titled
Hocus Pocus that radio had a love affair with. Now six
years down the track her songwriting illustrates a growth not only in
her music but her personal life also.
Her new EP has
four gems to add to the collection. Produced outstandingly by Herm
Kovac, the EP features four excellent songs written by Carol,
with four definably different facets, lovingly polished with a
distinctive bluegrass texture and fine vocals on the more contemporary
OK, the personal Be Still, and
the superb Look In The Mirror.
What A Day,
the first single, is a love song with a difference, and its incredibly
infectious feel driven by banjo and mandolin pulls you in instantly. It
gained strong airplay support and reached
#7 on the Top 100 Country Hits chart. Her single
Be Still has also received
attention from radio, making the Top 30 on the Top 100. Carol
appeared on Channel TEN/Southern Cross TEN’s current affairs program
‘State Focus’.
Named a Top 10
Finalist in the 2006 Victorian & National Country Music Awards for
Female Vocal & Bluegrass/Traditional Country & a finalist in the 2006
Golden Saddle Awards. Her single OK enjoyed solid
airplay entering the Top 50 on the Top 100 Country Hits chart. It also
made Top 40 in the 2006
Musicoz
Awards
for Best Country Artist Of The Year.
Carol featured in
the Christian Rock Eisteddfod Finale, with her penned song
Joseph Was a Dreamer chosen by Garry Hardman from Australian
Screen Music as the finale song. She is the first country performer to
be invited to perform at the annual event.
2006 also saw
Carol named a finalist in the 2006 TAS & NZ Independent EP Awards and in
the 1233 ABC
Newcastle Music Awards
for Gospel/Theatres Performer Of the Year.
Her new music has a raw appeal and honesty that makes you want to listen
again and again. With producer Herm Kovac at the reigns, he showcases
Australia’s best musicians injecting their own personalities into
Carol’s songs. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of the ride
that introduces you to the sincerity & originality that is Carol
Donovan.
“Carol and Herm have managed to encapsulate a real diversity in this
four song window into the happy world of Carol Donovan.”
